Sookie also finds herself trying to solve the mystery of the shifter shootings all over the Southeast. In Dead as a Doornail, Sookie finds herself in the middle of the "election" for a new pack leader of Alcide Herveaux's pack after he asks her to come to a funeral for Colonel Flood.
Charlaine Harris' series just continues to get better with each Sookie Stackhouse novel. This is another one of those books that has been reviewed over and over and over again, so I'll leave my thoughts.
I understand her motivations. Sookie is witty and wry, and I love her.
I particularly love how as a reader I can get inside of her head and her perceptions. Knowing Colonel Flood, Sookie is happy to oblige but quickly learns Alcide had ulterior motives other than friendship.
The ending has a surprise twist, but if you pay attention to the foreshadowing Harris provides, you'll figure it out.
And the implications of Sookie's various romances gets very complicated - for a girl who has spent most of her life being uninvolved with men, she sure makes up for lost time in this book. There is something missing, it lacks any of the real tension and romance of the previous novels, and the mystery is really no mystery at all and is very obvious.
That doesn't seem likely as her brother Jason is about to turn into a werepanther for the first time, and then a sniper sets their sights on local shifters. Synopsis: Sookie wants to settle into a more normal life.
I am really enjoying reading this series, but was disappointed in this book. Unfortunately for Jason, the local shifter community suspects him of being the culprit, and Sookie must try to identify the real sniper to try to keep Jason safe.
Eric, a pirate vampire called Charles and Bill all become involved, and to make matters more complicated, Sookie becomes even further embroiled in were politics, witnessing the wolves packmaster challenge, and facing further pressure to join with the panthers. There are some great parts, for example the further exploration of the werewolves society and a bit more understanding of the fairies.
As I said, I am really enjoying this series and won't let being disappointed in this one stop me from reading the next book.
not too angsty. All of the plot themes are interesting, fast-paced, and tie together well. This was the best in the series so far. Sookie has grown stronger, relying on herself more, yet accepts and asks for help when she's out of her depth. There were no lags in the plot at all, and the characterization and world-building was true to the series. The tension between the main character, Sookie, and her love interests was perfect. I hope the rest follow suit. Well done.
Sookie is getting close with a couple of different men and I'm really wondering who she'll chose and where it'll go. Wow, just wow. My interest in Alcide is completely over after reading this but I am very glad that Eric is back to being Eric. Dead as a Doornail had lots of action, lots of mystery and more than a few surprises. There was a lot of interesting shape-shifter focus in this novel and I am finding myself quite intrigued by the growing fairy storyline. Dead as a Doornail answered a lot of questions but presented even more new questions to wonder about. This was one highly entertaining Southern Vampire novel.
Just when I thought the series couldn't get any better here comes book 5 with more excitement. I loved Dead as a Doornail. Sookie's character continues to assert herself and to be confident with who she is as a woman. In book 3 weres appear, book 4 panthers appear, now in book 5 there is a tiger. I can't wait to read book 6.
